In the realm of tech, the allure of working for giants like MANG is undeniable. However, the path to achieving this dream is often paved with challenges and setbacks. This blog post chronicles my personal journey, from initial rejection to unwavering determination, as I strive to break into the coveted world of Google.
The Spark of Inspiration
Countless resources online offer strategies to crack coding interviews and individuals who have successfully landed dream roles at these tech behemoths. Inspired by these stories, I set my sights on Google, my dream company. However, my recent rejection served as a stark reminder that even the most determined individuals can face obstacles.
Fear as a Stepping Stone
Overcoming fear has been a crucial step in my journey. While it's natural to feel self-doubt and compare oneself to others, I've learned that fear can be a powerful motivator. By embracing my vulnerability and sharing my experiences publicly, I hope to inspire others and stay accountable to my goals.
Warning: This is a fight or flight response, here's to see if it may work out.
Things I am proud of -
Growing up, my family instilled in me the importance of dreaming big and believing in myself.
My mom belief for vanishing self-doubt was - if they can do it so can you.
I was hardworking, dedicated, above-average throughout school. And my family remain proud of the 91% I scored in the SSC board exams, after which there was sort of a drop, which I think is normal (or might be not). While my academic performance may have fluctuated, I've maintained a consistent passion for learning and growth.
So from loving basketball and being slight bit of a tomboy, I fell in love with science and tech, thanks to dedicated private tutor I had during boards - who was fragile and old but used to turn into a rockstar when he spoke about science and tech, I wonder if he knows the effect it had on me.
I initially aspired to pursue Aeronautical Engineering and had secured a college in Dehradun, UPES. But I faced family constraints. So after screwing up the DTE form and running around for technology adjacent colleges I got one near by - St. Francis Institute of Technology.
I decided to be the best again, and fall in love with what I do. I gave my everything in the first sem exams - but my everything was worth a 7.41 GPA.
When exams did not work as I wanted them to I went all tech - I joined the Robotics and Automation Wing of college (that participated in the international Robocon competition), RADLAB and would join any other tech group available. So after spending 12 hour days in college, unfortunately nothing to show for it - they were significant milestones in my leadership journey.
I realised in the 3rd year that I needed something to be remembered by and joined another group called the Literary committee that was to make the college magazine. I headed this committee that envisioned first TedXSFIT programme and created a limited Youtube series called Batli Talks that I enjoyed directing and hosting.
I was immensely proud of everything I had done in college.
Transitioning from the academic environment to the corporate world was a significant adjustment. I started the corporate life from the 4 walls of my house, and the corporate world demanded continuous learning, adaptability, and a relentless pursuit of knowledge.
I had to prove myself again and again, everything I had done was folklore and I needed new skills everyday.
I always knew being in this industry meant growing everyday, but this 4year stint has been something.
So, here I am, stuck in a work from home when I desperately want to work from office, stuck because I spent too much and I am in debt and my family has 0 funds saved. I can't afford a Masters and I am struggling to meet the requirements of job applications.
I foolishly thought Google would be my big break - but I yet need to earn to get there, I know now.
My Commitment
Despite facing setbacks and challenges, I've remained determined to achieve my career aspirations. I vow focus on upskilling myself, honing my technical abilities, and actively seeking opportunities to showcase my skills. My ultimate goal is to secure a coveted position at a top tech company with a competitive salary.
Let's Make This Happen
This journey is about more than just landing a dream job; it's about personal growth, overcoming challenges, and proving to myself that I am capable of achieving my goals. With unwavering determination and a relentless pursuit of knowledge, I believe I can make this happen.
This is me, right now as of 3rd June 2024 - there are things moving at a glacial pace, I'm committed to putting in 110% effort and leveraging my skills and experiences to achieve success. By the end of next year, I aim to be a valued member of a top tech company with a fulfilling and rewarding career. Next 3rd June 2025 - I am a part of a top tech company with a 30LPA package.
Let's make this happen!
